Chapter 6 Her Body Was Soft
It was already past eleven when Edie returned to the Brooks family. Walking into her room, she found only the beeping of the equipment and a report from the Brooks family’s treatment team on the bedside table. She quickly reviewed it to understand Carl’s condition.
She went to turn on the TV, letting the room filled with the smell of disinfectant have a bit of vitality, then rolled up her sleeves and gave Carl a massage.
Carl’s marriage to Edie was truly a bargain. Having the nation’s top neurosurgeon for overnight care and professional massages was a priceless service that one couldn’t buy with just 15 million dollars.
Coincidently, a financial show on TV was playing an interview video of Carl. The host spoke with regret, saying, “Carl, the power figure of the Brooks Group, has been in a coma for over half a month now. His company’s stock has dropped significantly…”
On the screen, Carl looked sharp in his well–tailored black suit, his long frame casually surrounded by bodyguards as they walked in front of the camera lens.
The bodyguards kept the media at bay, and Carl’s face on the screen had deep features with a clear and perfect curve from his jawline to behind his ear.
One could see that while the media were excited, they weren’t really bold enough to rush forward and ask questions.
Looking at Carl lying in bed, being touched and massaged at will, Edie compared it to the scenes on TV and felt a sense of discomfort that she could somewhat relate to.
Edie wasn’t one for long conversations, but talking to patients could help their
recovery.
She said, “I came to bring your change of luck, and look what happened–I ended up losing my boyfriend.”
Carl was not sleeping and heard what Edie said. He couldn’t help but snicker inwardly.‘ You’re already married to me, and yet you’re still trying to string someone else along?‘
He was relieved that they had broken up before things got too complicated. But if she dared to cheat on him, he would make sure both the lover and her faced severe
consequences.
He had already planned out how to handle the situation if necessary, but then Edie went on to say something that left him speechless. “My ex sent me here to bring you change of luck because he wanted to sleep with his so–called romantic ideal.”
Carl chuckled. ‘Huh, serving me right.‘
Edie felt even more repressed, but Carl’s mood lifted a bit.
Edie continued, “If you had become a vegetable earlier, I would have married you long

ago.”
Carl thought coldly in his heart, ‘Well, it’s a good thing I didn’t get into an accident
earlier.‘
Edie said, “Getting a share of your estate without having to worry about you cheating on me… Vegetables aren’t so bad after all.”
Carl suddenly wanted to frown. ‘How could such a high–achieving individual pick such poor men? All she cared about was money and not getting cheated on?‘
Edie sighed. “Forget it. Seeing how you were before, I guess you didn’t want to stick to our marriage contract anyway.”
Carl murmured inwardly, ‘I haven’t seen you take the initiative to come and seduce me for over 20 years. How do you know I don’t want to stick to it?‘
The image Carl had constructed of Edie in his mind completely crumbled within the few words from her just now.
Before, he saw her as greedy and scheming, but now she appeared to be a pitiful soul who had been deceived by a scumbag and left with nowhere to turn.
‘It’s not that I can’t consider taking you on. If I could wake up, I would show you how a real man should pamper his woman. Don’t let yourself be blinded by the sweet talk of a scumbag all the time,‘ thought Carl.
As Edie was massaging Carl, her eyes fell on his perfectly sculpted musculature, and a professional reflex took over her. She couldn’t help but marvel at the sight before her, ” These muscles are truly a masterpiece. I’d love to replicate them one–to–one and preserve them as a specimen.”
Carl ground his teeth in frustration. “Right, I almost forgot how flirtatious you are!”
Edie gave Carl another brief massage before heading to take a shower. When she returned, she was wearing a sleep dress and, with a slight dampness in the air, she lifted the blanket and lay down beside him.
Carl was speechless. ‘Go sleep on the couch!‘ he thought to himself.
Of course, Edie had no idea what Carl was thinking. It was early spring, and the temperature was still quite cold. Having someone to provide warmth, she thought it was a shame not to take advantage of it.
After all, Carl was just like a vegetable–he couldn’t do anything to her anyway.
When Edie snuggled up to him, Carl’s first thought was, “With a figure like this, how could her ex have cheated on her?”
Edie rested her head in the crook of his neck and gently patted his face, saying, “Men who can’t move are better; those who can are always thinking impure thoughts.”
Her body, was soft and slightly cold against him, alleviating a lot of his restlessness.
Carl lay stiffly in bed, seething internally at the thought, “No wonder your ex broke up

with you. You clearly don’t understand men. If it weren’t for the fact that I can’t move, with all this cuddling, I’d have you walking in unscathed but leaving here utterly exhausted.”
