Chapter 29 The Wedding Party Begins
Nathaniel also knew about the incident from five years ago.
Back then, in school, Edie and Nathaniel were on the same project. After its success, they went to a bar to celebrate.
That night, Edie drank too much and made a mistake out of a drunken stupor.
Nathaniel sensed something was wrong and came to find her. After learning what had happened, he brought her clothes and helped shield her from others‘ prying questions.
Edie had always been grateful to him. She knew full well his feelings for her, but she couldn’t bring herself to harshly reject him, remembering his actions back then.
Nathaniel said, “Edie, it’s not too late to back out now. Knowing Carl’s temperament, he‘ Il never accept a marriage without love.”
Edie replied, “Marrying Carl is my own choice. Whether we divorce or not after he wakes up, I can accept it.”
She still maintained the facade of being madly in love with Carl in front of Nathaniel.
Seeing Edie’s firm resolve, Nathaniel’s emotions were somewhat indescribable as he said, “Alright, let me pay for your gown. Consider it a wedding gift from me.”
Edie told Nathaniel, “I can buy it myself.”
Then she called over the sales assistant and said, “I’ll take this one. Charge it.
Nathaniel asked, “Can I give you a ride later?”
Edie responded, “No, thanks. It wouldn’t be proper. Plus, it wouldn’t be good if your
mom sees us.”
She was really trying to distance herself from Nathaniel. Nathaniel sighed and had no choice but to give up.

Soon, the day of the wedding party arrived. It was attended only by members of the Brooks family, with no media reporters present, as they didn’t want to make the event public. Even though Edie had severed ties with the Thornton family, the Brooks family still put on a show by inviting the Thorntons, and they even arranged seats for Madeline and Jefferson.
The party was scheduled for seven o’clock in the evening. Edie had originally planned just to wait at the Brooks family’s place and then go to greet people and show herself to them during the party.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Talia Eland, a head nurse whom Edie was familiar with. She sounded flustered as she said to Edie, “Ms. Thornton, are you available now?”
Edie asked, “What’s going on?”

Talia briefly explained the situation to Edie, “The surgery you performed on bed 209, the bandage had only been on for three days when the doctor on duty took it off. Now the wound isn’t healing, there’s a serious infection, and it’s affecting the results of the surgery. The family is raising a fuss.”
Edie asked coldly, “Who told them to take it off?”
Talia said, “The patient was demanding to be discharged and insisted on removing it. Dr. Harding couldn’t handle it anymore…”
Edie said, “That’s his problem. I already handed everything over to the new attending doctor before I went on vacation. It’s no use contacting me.”
Talia whispered, “We can’t reach the attending doctor…”
It seemed they had no other option but to get a junior nurse like her to seek help from Edie.
Edie said coldly, “I’m on vacation.”
Talia’s eyes turned red as she stammered anxiously, “But… the patient’s family…”
Edie frowned but finally decided to help. She stood up and said, “This is the last time.””
Talia was almost in tears but nodded quickly, knowing that Edie was willing to come and deal with the trouble.
Edie drove to the hospital.
No wonder Talia was so desperate. The patient’s family was causing a scene in the hospital lobby, shouting loudly for an explanation.
When Edie arrived by car, it wa Or an explanation.
it was quite a spectacle, with many people watching.
One of the patient’s family members yelled, “Dr. Harding removed the bandage from my dad. Now, there’s an infection. The surgery was all for nothing! Do you have nothing to say?”
