Chapter 28 Choosing The Wedding Dress
Alec, acting on Carl’s orders, said with a straight face, “Actually, Mr. Brooks has known Mrs. Brooks for quite some time. If Mr. Brooks were awake, he probably wouldn’t spoil Mrs. Brooks’s fun over such a minor issue.”
He was rather vague in his implication, hinting at Zelda.
Zelda caught on immediately. “So they have a good relationship?”
To throw Zelda off, Alec replied evasively, “From what I know, it should be good. If Mr. Brooks knew he was marrying Mrs. Brooks, he probably wouldn’t be too opposed.”
Zelda pondered this with a frown, then said, “Alright, I get it.”

In just two days, Edie and Carl’s wedding party would take place. It wasn’t even much of a wedding since Carl wouldn’t be attending; it was merely to introduce Edie to the Brooks family.
Edie had also invited Madeline and Jefferson.
Given the significance of the event, Edie needed to dress appropriately.
These past few days, she and Prunella had been regulars at luxury stores, with sales assistants greeting them with utmost sincerity.
Edie wasn’t very enthusiastic about choosing a gown; she was only there today because Prunella insisted.
Prunella said, “Even though you don’t need a wedding dress, it’s still a wedding party- your first one.”
The sales assistant chimed in, “Exactly, plus you look great in it.”
Edie wore a white evening gown with a small skirt that spread out on the carpet. The gown was heavily embroidered with silver patterns and had a very slim waist.
Prunella asked, “Wanna try on a few more?”
“No, it’s troublesome,” Edie replied. “This one will do.”
On the second floor, Regina was shopping with Zelda when they passed by and saw Edie.
Regina’s eyes lit up as she approached Zelda. “Look, Ms. Thornton is picking out a gown. She might be using Mr. Brooks’s card again.”
Zelda looked displeased. “Again?”
Regina said, “I saw her before, acting like she had never seen anything before, buying all sorts of jewelry, thinking the Brooks family was treating her badly.”
Observing Zelda’s expression, Regina cautiously added, “Mr. Brooks won’t be happy when he finds out, right?”

Zelda looked at the gown Edie was wearing and realized it was for the party. The style was fairly elegant, and it looked good on her, not embarrassing at all.
Since Alec mentioned that Carl knew Edie, Zelda decided to wait until Carl woke decide Edie’s future. She didn’t want to interfere.

To Regina’s surprise, although Zelda didn’t look happy and clearly disliked Edie’s nouveau riche behavior, she didn’t respond angrily. Instead, she just gave Edie a cursory glance and mildly reprimanded, “After all, she is Carl’s wife now. Let her spend if she wants.”
Règina was taken aback by Zelda speaking up for Edie.
Zelda clearly had no intention of going downstairs to greet Edie and walked away.
Downstairs, just as Edie was about to change out of the gown in the fitting room, Nathaniel walked in.
Nathaniel visibly paused when he saw Edie, then changed direction to approach her. ” Hi, Edie.”
Edie nodded slightly in greeting. “What a coincidence.”
“I’m here with my mom to buy clothes. You look great in that outfit,” said Nathaniel after he looked up and down at Edie.
Edie responded coldly, “Thanks.”
Nathaniel gave a wry smile. “You don’t have to be so polite to me. If you’re worried that I’ll tell Carl…”
Edie gestured for Nathaniel to wait a moment, then said to Prunella beside her, “I need to talk to him about something.”
Prunella nodded. “Alright, I’ll go check out other dresses over there.”
After Prunella left, Nathaniel and Edie were alone in thé area.
Edie continued the conversation that Nathaniel had been interrupted earlier, “If you’re referring to the incident five years ago, I appreciate that you haven’t said anything about it so far.”
