Chapter 26 Say You’re Jealous
Edie, having a rare moment of leisure, sat on a chair beside the hospital bed with her legs crossed and a magazine on her lap.
She said, “First, prepare herbal water by boiling water and steeping herbs in it. Use this herbal water to wipe down his body once, then clean with fresh water.”
Her detached tone was as if she were instructing a servant, making Regina, who couldn’t wait to take over this task, fume with anger. “Just shut up; I know it!”
Edie let out a huff of laughter from her throat and actually stopped talking.
Not long after, busy–as–a–bee Regina, gritting her teeth, came to ask Edie, “Where’s the herbal medicine?”
Edie lifted her chin slightly and pointed. “Left cabinet.”
As Regina went to check, Edie watched the scene unfold, adding cold, “Don’t use too much water.”
A little later, she added, “The white towel is for wiping his body.”
A few minutes passed before she asked again, “Do you even know what you’re doing?”
Every now and then, she’d throw in an order, acting all high and mighty.
Regina clenched her jaw tightly; her carefully applied makeup was gone, her hair was disheveled, and her dress was soaked by the dark herbal medicine water. She held a basin of water with trembling hands, looking like she was about to drop it.
Suddenly, Regina stumbled and let out a frightened yell, causing the basin in her hands to spill water.
Edie’s eyebrows shot up, and she instinctively reached out her hand to shield Carl’s face. The hot water splashed onto her hand, immediately turning it red.
Edie frowned deeply, finally unable to hold back. “Miss, do you have any common sense at all? Using scalding hot water to wipe someone down?”
Regina retorted, “This kind of thing is done by caregivers; how would I know?”
Annoyed by the throbbing pain in her hand, Edie snapped, “Get out; we don’t need you.” Regina hurriedly said, “Don’t forget, it was Zelda who sent me to take care of Carl!”
Edie cut her down, “Like this? I’m afraid one night of your ‘care‘, and tomorrow Carl will be breathing his last,”
“You…” Regina exclaimed.
Edie didn’t want to waste any more words on her. “Either leave now or later I’ll tell Zelda how you almost spilled hot water on his face.”
Fearing for her position, Regina, who had just gained Zelda’s favor, didn’t want to ruin her impression because of this minor issue.

Chapter 26 Say You’re Jealous
After she stormed off angrily, Edie pressed the call button by the bed to summon the nurse. “Bring a new blanket and some burn cream.”
Carl, who was still upset, paused when he heard this. ‘She got burned while shielding me?
For some reason, he felt uneasy. ‘Will it scar?‘
He suddenly realized his thoughts were wrong and forced himself to focus on something else. ‘It served her right!‘
Unaware of Carl’s thoughts, Edie removed the wet blanket.
Carl’s arm outside the blanket had also been splashed with a bit of water, but luckily, his cotton spring long–sleeve pajamas protected him, and there was no major harm.
Not taking any chances, Edie took off Carl’s top and checked again to make sure there was no redness on his skin, then changed him into clean clothes.
Thinking Carl couldn’t hear her, Edie muttered to herself, “If you were awake and ended up with a woman like that, you’d probably shorten your lifespan by a few years. You should be thankful I’m here to serve you.”
At least she was professional and wouldn’t use boiling water to wipe him down.
Carl let out a cold laugh in his mind, ‘Just come out and say you’re jealous; why make
an excuse out of me?‘
