Chapter 23 Use Carl’s Card For Payment
Spending money was definitely something that Prunella did without hesitation, especially when it came to luxury shopping; she didn’t even bat an eye.
The next day, Edie arrived at the agreed–upon store entrance and called Prunella. ” Where are you?”
Prunella answered, “I’m on my way, just a moment. I’m in the underground garage. I’ll hang up now; go ahead and take a look around inside.”
Edie walked into the store on her own, holding the 15 million dollars and Carl’s black credit card, feeling richer than she did back in the Thornton family days.
Before even stepping inside, she heard a sarcastic voice from behind. “Well, well, look who it is.”
Edie lifted an eyebrow and looked over with little expression.
In the early spring weather, three women wearing cool skirts, fur coats, and high heels approach Edie.
The one with pink hair, Regina Saunders, had an unmistakable look of smug satisfaction, scrutinizing Edie as she walked over as if appraising something cheap. She said, “Aren’t you the heiress of the Thornton family? What are you doing standing here looking so pitiful? It’s freezing out here at night; why don’t you go inside?”
Her companion, with a sardonic smile playing on her lips, reminded her, “You seem to have forgotten, she’s hardly the Thornton family’s heiress anymore.”
Regina then pointed to the sign that said “Minimum spend 30 thousand dollars” at the entrance and feigned kindness. “If you really can’t afford it, don’t worry. Just beg me a bit, say something nice, and I’ll take you inside.”
Edie was at a loss for words. She figured they must be crazy and walked straight into the store.
The three women waiting to see Edie make a fool of herself were stunned for a moment. Regina frowned fiercely. “What are you putting on an act for? You think you‘ re still the heiress you used to be? Now you’re just nobody!”
“Right! You think Prunella will still hang out with you like before? She’s still the heiress of manor, and even if you were someone capable, with your poor background, you S never reach her level.”
Mentioning Prunella jogged Edie’s memory.
It seemed those were some minor heiress from lesser families who had tried to get close to Prunella before, hoping to connect with people in her social circle through her.
But Prunella didn’t buy it and turned to Edie, saying to them, “You lot aren’t worthy; you need to be at least like her to catch the eye of a heiress like me.”

So, it was Prunella who had stirred up resentment against Edie.
The shop assistant also overheard their conversation and approached Edie. “Our store requires reservations in advance…”
The manager hurriedly jogged over from the back, wearing a servile smile. “Ms. Thornton, I’m so sorry. She is new and doesn’t recognize you. Please come with me…”
The assistant was dumbfounded until Edie walked in, and then the manager whispered sternly to her. “I told you to memorize the client list; how could you not have done it yet? She’s a friend of Ms. Byrd.”
The three waiting to laugh at Edie turned stiff.
Edie took out Carl’s black card, twirled it between her fingers, and confidently said, “I can certainly afford to shop in a luxury store. You’ve probably heard about my husband waking up a few days ago. He felt bad for me and even said I could use this card freely as compensation.”
‘What? How could this be?‘ The three women were shocked.
Edie looked at the three stunned women and smiled slightly. “Get your issues treated and don’t spout nonsense in public.”
Regina instantly got furious. “What are you so smug about? Don’t get too big for your boots!”
Suddenly, a clear voice comes from nearby. “Get too big for your boots? Who are you talking about?”
Prunella, dressed like a quintessential heiress, wearing high heels that would be ruined after a few steps on the ground, and carrying an exclusive bag worth more than the store itself, sauntered over to Edie.
She linked arms with Edie and glanced at the three women with a smile in her eyes. ” So, who’s getting too big for her boots? Is it you?” She looked from left to right. “Or you?”
The three women, seeing how close the two still were, couldn’t hide their stiff faces.
The previously boastful Regina suddenly stumbled over her words. “Ms. B–Byrd…”
Prunella released Edie and patted her shoulder reassuringly before approaching the trio, all traces of warmth gone from her face. “I asked who’s getting too big for her
boots?”
The three break out in cold sweat, hastily answering each other.
“It’s me, it’s me…”
“I’m the one getting too big for my boots.”
“Yes, yes, yes… Ms. Byrd, you misheard us; we were talking about ourselves.”
Prunella let out an ominous hum. “It seems you haven’t figured out that no matter what, Edie is important in my eyes.”

With that harsh warning, Prunella summoned the staff and bluntly reprimanded them, My dad pays your salaries for what exactly? Aren’t you supposed to be watching out for troublemakers?”
The assistants were cowed into subservience, nodding and bowing without daring to speak back.
Prunella lightly slapped the assistant’s back with her bag, her eyebrows raised in anger. “Are you waiting for me to do it myself?”
The assistant quickly called over several colleagues, and they dragged the three women off to dump them by the roadside.
The trio left in disarray, not even daring to vent their anger, retreating hastily with their
heads down.
Seeing the issue resolved, Prunella’s expression turned sweet and sycophantic.” Honey…”
This drawn–out endearment could melt any man’s bones.
Prunella affectionately draped herself over Edie and sneered at the corner of her mouth. “A bunch of clueless morons, not knowing their place to mess with my baby.”
Edie arched her brow slightly. “Ms. Byrd, quite impressive.”
“Of course,” Prunella preened and pulled Edie along. “Come on, come on. Let’s not waste time on important matters like using men’s bank cards for payment.”
