Chapter 15 The Kid Is Fine
At Night Feast, the biggest nightclub in Clerlun, a group of young people packed tightly together on the dance floor in the center. Flashing colored lights illuminated a realm of luxury and extravagance, while the hot music was deafening.
Prunella led Edie to a booth and sat down. Even in the dimly colored lights, Edie’s beautiful features couldn’t be obscured; instead, it was as if a sheer veil was cast over her flawless face, creating a hazy and ambiguous effect.
Prunella waved to summon a waiter to bring some alcohol and fruit. Just as she was about to order a few nightclub male models to comfort her heartbroken friend, Edie pulled her to sit beside her.
She said, “We haven’t talked about the important matter yet.”
Prunella gave Edie a helpless look. “Five years have passed, and you’ve asked me this question hundreds of times. I’ve been trying to help you find… But that kid was just born, and so much time has passed. Isn’t this even harder than finding a needle in a haystack?”
At least there was still a chance to find a needle in a haystack; the favor Edie wanted from her was like trying to do something impossible.
The club was noisy, so Edie had to lean close to Prunella to speak. “You know I’ve always been obsessed with this. The hospital caught fire right after the kid was born, but I always feel that the child must be fine.”
Prunella asked, “Could it really be that someone from the Thornton family hid the child from you?”
Edie shook her head. “They truly don’t know. I would have found out if it were so.”
She once had a child, and only the Thornton couple and Prunella knew about it.
However, she was told that the child had died in the fire right after birth.
And to this day, she did not even know who that man was.
Whenever Edie thought of that man, she couldn’t help but recall that intoxicating and uncontrollable night. A rare hint of restrained embarrassment appeared in her expression. “I don’t want to pursue other things anymore. As for the child, I won’t give up as long as there’s a glimmer of hope.”
On that day, seven children were born in the neonatal room, but only six bodies of children were found. Edie had compared the DNA and none of them were her child.
Prunella asked, “What exactly happened five years ago? Do you remember that man? Should we start with him? Maybe he took the child away.”
“I was drunk and don’t remember anything at all,” Edie said, pinching the bridge of her nose, looking exhausted.

Prunella comforted, “Freaking out won’t help. Tell me what’s going on with you now. How did you end up married to Carl?”
She clearly remembered how Eliza had flaunted her engagement in front of Edie.
Even though Edié hadn’t taken the engagement seriously, it still infuriated Prunella.
Edie said, “The Brooks family wanted to have a happy event to reverse bad fortune, but Eliza didn’t agree, so I was substituted as the bride.”
Prunella was furious. “So the Thornton family really did push you into it?”
“Not really.” Edie shook her head, looking a bit more relaxed. “I threatened the Thornton family. I demanded half of the money the Brooks family offered, or else they could either ruthlessly marry off their precious daughter or face bankruptcy.”
Prunella said, “You did a great job! And Sebastian agreed to that?”
A hint of sarcasm appeared at the corner of Edie’s eye. “Of course he would, Eliza promised to invest in his movie.”
Prunella’s eyes widened. “So they got together?”
Edie nodded.
Without hesitation, Prunella suddenly took out her phone.
Edie asked, “What are you doing?”
“Making a call. I’m going to ruin him in showbiz!” Prunella cursed. “Daring to cheat on you? He must be tired of living!”
