Chapter 10 Carl Has Moved
Edie mentally prepared herself for several seconds, then expressionlessly continued to pull up his pants.
She turned and left so quickly that she did not even notice the faint blush creeping up
Carl’s ears.
Carl was both annoyed and angry but completely unable to move. ‘What a shameless
woman!‘
Edie spent a solid five minutes brushing her teeth and another five washing her face before coming back to dress Carl in his pajamas.
As she was reaching down to fasten the buttons, her elbow accidentally hit the spot
where her mouth touched.
Edie felt it was disgusting.
The button she was touching felt like it had been burned red–hot, scorching her hand. She quickly let go and stared at the spot with wide eyes.
After a while, she finally regained her composure from the shock, angered into silence. ‘I’m sorry, it’s just that I don’t understand men well enough. Whether they’re in a vegetative state or not, there’s really no difference because they’re naturally lewd.‘
Edie dumped Carl in the bathroom, coldly reached for some tissues to wipe her hands as if she’d touched something dirty, and stormed off to find Fabian.
Unluckily, as she passed Fabian’s study, she saw a few members of the Brooks family sitting inside.
Carl’s father, Fabian, she had met before. Sitting next to him should be Carl’s mother, Zelda Brooks, and the younger one was Carl’s sister, Sophia Brooks.
Zelda had her arms crossed, and displeasure was evident in her tone. “She comes back this late every day?”
Drogo, standing to the side, replied, “Yes… Mrs. Brooks is a doctor; she’s busy with work.”
Zelda said to Fabian, “Honey, you should just have her quit her job.”
Fabian responded, “The contract is signed; we can’t interfere with her work.”
Zelda argued, “Our family can afford her. How can she take good care of Carl if she doesn’t even think about him all day?”
Sophia could not help but chime in, “Drogo said… She takes good care of Carl well, even giving him baths and massages herself.”
Zelda retorted, “And leaves him alone during the day?”
“There are nurses and a medical team. She’s not the attending physician; sticking to

Carl 24/7 won’t help either,” Fabian said firmly. “Since Drogo says she’s dedicated, what else is there to worry about?”
Zelda’s mood was also sour. “If she can’t bring good luck to Carl, I’ll make sure she leaves the Brooks family the same way she came in.”
Sophia muttered under her breath, “Edie is Carl’s wife, not yours. Just let Carl decide when he wakes up; why are you so worried?”
Zelda snapped, “You little traitor! Always taking sides against me, huh?”
Edie knocked on the door.
Zelda heard the knock, saw Edie, and asked aggressively, “What are you doing here? No nurse here at night, and you leave Carl alone in his room?”
This was the first time Zelda had seen Edie. She looked over her, frowning. ‘Edie seems familiar, like someone I’d seen before.’
Edie was expressionless as she said calmly, “Quickly call a car to take us to the hospital; Carl has moved.”
Despite saying “quickly“, her unhurried tone made everyone feel that she did not want Carl to regain consciousness at all.
Zelda was genuinely surprised that Edie really brought good luck to Carl. She stood stunned for several seconds before snapping back to reality after being sharply rebuked by Fabian.
Edie’s casual remark caused chaos throughout the Brooks family villa late at night.
Some called for a driver; others rushed to check on Carl, acting as if Carl had suddenly sat up from near death,
