Matteo had already shifted his focus back to the book when he casually commented, “Your annotations are quite
good.”
This was a compliment, but Freya pretended not to hear it. She grabbed the hairdryer and went back into the bathroom to dry her hair.
By the time she finished her skincare routine and lay down on the other side of the bed to rest, Matteo was still reading.
He didn’t fall asleep immediately, and Freya had no idea when he eventually did, as she fell asleep quickly.
The next morning, Freya woke up early. The sun had just risen, but the other side of the bed was already empty. The room was quiet, and Matteo was nowhere to be seen.
She was almost certain now that he hadn’t slept here last night–he must have gone to Raven’s room instead.
Was he that eager, unable to control himself even for a night?
After breakfast, Freya packed her things, grabbed her suitcase, and was ready to leave.
As she opened the door, she overheard Isabella’s voice in the hallway: “Aunt Raven is so bad. She promised to sleep with me last night, but when I woke up in the middle of the night, she went back to her own room.”
Isabella was apparently complaining to Aunt Sara.
Upon hearing this, Freya could confirm that Matteo hadn’t stayed in her room last night but had gone to Raven’s instead. It was evident they had spent the night together.
Isabella then saw her dragging her suitcase out: “Mom?”
“Mm.” Freya snapped out of her thoughts, closing the door behind her. “Mom has work to do. You stay here and have fun with Daddy.”
Isabella nodded eagerly, “Okay, I’ll stay here, Mommy.”
Freya went downstairs, and when she reached the bottom, she ran into Matteo, who was with Raven.
Seeing her carrying a suitcase, Matteo asked, “Are you leaving?”
Freya replied coldly, “Mm.”
“Did you call for a ride?”

He didn’t stop her, simply saying, “Okay.”
Freya walked out of the house, got into her car, and left.
Later that day, Levi woke up later than usual. When he came downstairs to join Matteo and the others for lunch, he suggested, “Trank, why don’t you go upstairs and ask her to come back for a bit?”
By “ask,” he naturally meant ask Freya.
Matteo responded indifferently, “No need. She’s already left.”
Levi raised an eyebrow. “She left?”
He paused, and so did Harry, who was sitting nearby.
“Yeah.” Matteo confirmed. “She had work to attend to.”
Levi, aware of the reasons behind Freya’s departure–regarding her company and her decision to join Cole–smiled and said, “Wow, she’s busy again, huh? She was busy yesterday, and now she’s busy today?”
He gave a knowing chuckle. “Doesn’t it seem like she can’t function without Cole around?”
To be honest, Freya had gotten in through the back door and had no real skills. She wasn’t one of Cole’s major shareholders either. If she said she was busy, it just sounded like an excuse.
It was one thing to make excuses, but to make such a flimsy excuse…..

Raven, who overheard, understood Levi’s implied meaning. She chuckled silently as she continued eating.
Freya had no idea what they were thinking. After leaving the hot spring resort, she headed straight to Cole and worked until it was dark.
After two days of nonstop work, she was finally planning to head home when her uncle, Jason, called.
Half an hour later, she returned to the Miller family house, where her uncle and his family–his wife and two children, Xavier and Hugo–were waiting.
When they saw her, they greeted her warmly: “Cousin!”
Freya smiled faintly. “Mm.”
Hugo asked, “Where’s Isabella? Didn’t you say she came back to D City? Why didn’t she come for dinner?”

“She went to the hot springs and hasn’t come back yet.”

Hugo, thinking that Isabella must have gone with Matteo to the hot springs, didn’t ask further.
As Freya was about to step inside, she paused when she saw the opposite villa er steps faltered.
When she went to the hot spring resort earlier, she hadn’t thought to bring the keys to this villa. If the had, the could’ve started clearing out the remnants left by the Green family and gotten it renovated again.
After dinner, the family chatted for a while, and when it was nearly 9 p.m., Freya prepared to leave.
Before she could leave, Old Lady Miller came out to see her off, holding her hand and saying, “If the Wilson family doesn’t want to come, don’t force them. I’m not desperate for them to come to my birthday.”
Although her uncle had lowered his voice when handing her the invitations to avoid her hearing, Freya understood perfectly.
“I understand,” she replied.
Old Lady Miller and Old Lady Wilson had been close friends. Normally, Old Lady Wilson would certainly attend Old Lady Miller’s birthday banquet.
However, because Old Lady Wilson was older, according to local customs, older family members did not attend the birthday celebrations of those younger than them.
In previous years, Old Lady Miller’s birthday had been a low–key affair, just a family gathering for a simple meal.
Over the years, Matteo had never once come to celebrate the old lady’s birthday.
In the beginning, he had used the excuse that he was too busy. But Freya knew that even when he had time, he still wouldn’t attend, not even when he went out to hang out with friends.
Even so, every year around the time of the old lady’s birthday, she would still hold on to a glimmer of hope and ask him in advance if he was free on that day and whether he could accompany her to her grandmother’s birthday celebration.
But every time, she would receive nothing but disappointment.
This year, she didn’t want to ask Matteo again.
But this year, the old lady was celebrating her milestone birthday, and many of Freya’s business partners had been invited by Jason.
