In the aftermath of the divorce, a sense of relief washes over me as I realize that Adam and his family are no longer a part of my life. The absence of their toxic presence is a welcome reprieve, allowing me to finally breathe freely and move forward unencumbered by their negativity,
As I contemplate Adam’s impending marriage to Sophia and the arrival of their baby, I cannot help but feel a twinge of sadness for what could have been. The dream of starting a family of my own with Adam remains unfulfilled, but I refuse to dwell on the disappointment. Joining my brother Neal Jackson’s company as the general manager has been an exhilarating experience, one that fills me with boundless joy and excitement. As we make our way to meet the board members and other executives in the company, I cannot help but feel a sense of pride in being a part of such a prestigious organization. As Neal introduces me to the board members and other executives at Jackson Paragon, I can’t help but notice the absence of any mention of our familial relationship. With our different surnames and no outward indication of our connection, it is unlikely that anyone would suspect we are siblings.
Despite the omission, I understand Neal’s decision to keep our relationship private in a professional setting. It allows me to stand on my own merits and prove myself based on my skills and abilities, rather than relying on any familial associations.
“Miss Aria Cook is the new general manager of Jackson Paragon. Let’s wish her all the best in her new role.”
“Must be his mistress! That’s why she became the general manager!”

The cruel insinuation that my appointment as general manager is somehow tied to an illicit relationship with Neal leaves me reeling with shock and disbelief.
In that moment, the sting of judgement and prejudice threatens to overshadow the excitement and optimism T had felt just moments before. The realization that my hard earned achievements are being tarnished by baseless numors fills me with a sense of outrage and indignation
I doubt if Neal heard anything because he continues his speech.
“Let’s give her a warm welcome.”
The collective sulk that spreads across the room like a dark cloud fills me with a profound sense o of dismay. It is disheartening to witness such open discontent and unhappiness with Neal’s decision, casting a shadow over what should have been a moment of celebration and camaraderie
Neal is not an idiot and he frowns as he notices everyone’s face and attitude. Suddenly, a senior lady decides to voice out her opinion, which is of course, on behalf of the rest of the members present.
“Based on what merit is she appointed as the new GM, while me, working here for years, deserve this position?”
The others are not baffled at that old lady’s guts. Instead, they await for Neal’s answer, while I feel so embarrassed that I am pretty sure I turned red. Is it going to be like this everywhere I go?
