Chapter 77: Dangerous Declarations
(Scarlett’s POV)
“You think you can ignore pack hierarchy just because you have a little power now?” he snapped, his voice trembling with frustration.
I raised an eyebrow at his words and gave him a slow, mocking smile. “Hierarchy? You mean the one where the future Alpha can’t even keep his own pack from begging for supplies? That hierarchy?”
His jaw tightened, and his fists curled at his sides. “What are you talking about?”
“Oh, come on,” I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm. “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Your pack is bleeding resources dry, and now you’re all but crawling to my healing center for the scraps you desperately
need to keep Grace alive.”
Alexander’s face paled for a moment before he gritted his teeth, trying to mask his emotions. “We don’t depend on-”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” I interrupted sharply, sitting up just enough to make my tone sharper. “Because we both know you’d be lying. Without my supplies, you would have nothing.” I leaned back again, letting the
cold truth settle in the room.
He looked like he wanted to argue, but the words got stuck in his throat.
“And yet,” I continued, the sweetness in my voice barely concealing my bitterness, “you’re here, threatening me instead of thanking me. Isn’t it ironic, Alexander? You need me, but you won’t admit it because your fragile pride can’t take it.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying,” he growled, his voice low and unsteady.
“Oh, I know perfectly well,” I shot back. “Tell me, does it bother you that you owe everything to someone you’ve tried to destroy?”
His eyes blazed at the accusation, but then they flickered with uncertainty, and I knew I’d hit a nerve.
“Stop playing games, Scarlett,” he said, trying to sound firm but failing. “You’re walking a dangerous path.”
I tilted my head, my lips curling into a smile that didn’t touch my eyes. “Am I? Interesting choice of words. Speaking of dangerous paths, have you checked in with Sarah lately? How’s her little plot to kidnap me going?”
The blood drained from his face. His mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. For the first time, I saw something close to fear in his expression.
“You… you know about that?” he finally managed to say, his voice almost a whisper.
“Of course I do,” I said sharply, setting pen down on my desk with a loud thud. “You think Sarah can scheme behind my back and I wouldn’t find out? And you–you let her. Desperation must really be clouding your judgment.”
Alexander’s hands twitched, his claws threatening to come out. “It wasn’t like that,” he said quickly. “I didn’t agree with her methods-”

“But you didn’t stop her, did you?” I interrupted, standing up from my chair. “You stood by and let her conspire
to harm someone under the protection of the Shadow Organization. Do you even understand the gravity of
that stupidity?”
His breathing grew shallow, and his gaze flickered from me to the door behind me as if considering his
escape.
Then his eyes landed on my neck. I knew immediately what he was looking at–the faint marks Roman had left. His jaw clenched so hard I thought he might break a tooth, and his trembling hand tightened into a fist
at his side.
“This Alpha,” he said, his voice almost trembling. “The one protecting you. Who is he?”
I laughed coldly, the sound cutting through the air like a knife. “Why should I explain anything to you?”
“Because I need to know!” he exploded, taking a step forward. “I need to know who has that kind of power
over you!”
He didn’t even realize what he’d just said, but I did. For a moment, I softened. Then I hardened again. “Power over me?” I repeated mockingly. “You’ve got it all wrong, Alexander. No one has power over me–not anymore.”
“You think you’re untouchable now because of some mysterious Alpha,” he snapped. “But you’re wrong. You’re still the same Scarlett, pretending to be stronger than you are. Who is he, Scarlett? Tell me!”
“Why?” I asked, crossing my arms and tilting my chin defiantly. “So you can cry about how he’s better than you at controlling his pack? Or is it just your ego that makes you want to know?”
He flinched at my words but tried to hide it by letting out a bitter laugh. “I don’t care about his status or his pack. But I need to know what you’ve gotten yourself into.”
“Why don’t you focus on your pack instead,” I snapped back. “It’s falling apart, Alexander, thanks to your
decisions–and to Grace.”
He stiffened at her name, his face twisting with a mix of guilt and anger. “Her condition…” he began, but his
voice faltered.
“Yes, her condition.” I leaned forward, my voice dropping into a sharp whisper. “The seaside mansion–let me guess. You only want it so you can save her, right? Not for any noble reason, but because she can’t survive without it. How pathetic.”
“Stop.” His voice cracked and dropped, but he didn’t back away. “You don’t know-”
“I don’t care,” I cut him off. “Her suffering isn’t my concern. You made your choices, Alexander. You didn’t choose me–and I never wanted you to.”
The room went quiet for several heartbeats, the tension between us stretched taught. He glared at me with everything he had, but it wasn’t enough. He was off balance, and we both knew it.
Finally, I pressed the intercom on my desk. “Hunter?”
The door swung open immediately, and could feel the calming power of Hunter’s presence flood the room. Tall and imposing, he didn’t even need to speak to show where the authority in the room truly rested. Alexander’s body tensed, his wolf Mason rippling beneath his skin. “You’re hiding behind him now? A glorified
Beta?”

Hunter’s sharp gaze didn’t waver as he studied Alexander like a predator judging its prey. “You requested,
Miss Winters?”
“Remove him,” I said simply, sitting back down without giving Alexander another glance. “He’s overstayed his
welcome.”
Hunter didn’t even pause. He was behind Alexander in a flash, gripping his uninjured arm with more force
than necessary.
“You can’t do this,” Alexander snarled, trying to pull free. But Hunter was unrelenting.
“Oh, but I can,” I said sweetly, watching them from my desk. “Consider this a mercy, Alexander. Next time, I
won’t be so gentle.”
As Hunter moved to escort him out, Alexander turned his head and glared at me, his fury spilling over. “You’ll regret this, Scarlett! You think you’re safe now, but I’ll destroy your healing center. See how powerful you are when it’s gone!”
I burst out laughing, the sound loud and cutting. “Destroy my healing center? With what resources? Have you not realized I’ve already dismantled your entire supply chain? You can barely keep Grace alive, let alone harm
me.”
His face turned a deep shade of red as humiliation and rage poured off him in waves.
“This isn’t over!” he roared as Hunter dragged him through the door.
“No, it’s not,” I said under my breath, smirking as I waved mockingly. “But it will be–for you.“.
The door slammed shut behind them, cutting off Alexander’s furious growls. I leaned back in my chair and exhaled slowly, feeling the rush of adrenaline still coursing through me. Through the pack bonds, I could feel his anger burning hot like a fire, but it was weak–a desperate attempt to hold onto some semblance.of
control.
He wanted a fight, but I was done playing by his rules. Alexander Amber, his pack, and their so–called alliance were nothing to me anymore. Let them stew in their own failures. I had much bigger battles ahead.
