Mira never voiced that final thought.
She simply turned and drove straight to the Pack Embassy.
Getting a Lunar Residency Seal for the European Territory wasn’t complicated, especially for someone with her
connections.
Years ago, the Redwillow Pack had merged with Lucien’s Shadowpine after her parents relocated to European Territory to establish the Mooncrag Pack near untapped silver mines.
Everyone had moved–except Mira, who’d stayed behind for Lucien.
Now, she too was leaving.
“The seal ritual should take about a week to complete,” the wolf diplomat said with a polite smile.
She nodded, taking the ceremonial receipt and walking back to her car.
It was finally ending.
Lucien Ashmorne–the Alpha she’d chased for six years, the devoted wolf she thought she could lure away from the Moon Goddess–would never be hers.
She’d sacrificed everything for him. She’d adopted his blood–free diet, embraced his austere lifestyle, even suppressed her naturally wild nature.
All to get just a little closer to him. And in the end, she couldn’t even touch the most primal desire in his heart.
Looking down at the receipt in her hand, she gave a small, bitter smile.
“Fuck it. If you don’t want me, plenty of other Alphas will.”
That evening, she met up with a group of packmates at Midnight Howl–a club she hadn’t visited since taking the mating vow with Lucien.
Tonight, she wore a black slip dress that swayed with each step, revealing her long legs. Her eyes held a glint of her old wildness, the part of herself she’d buried for too long.
“Holy shit, Mira, what’s gotten into you?” Her closest packmate Summer Lynsander grabbed her arm, eyes w
“Since you fell for that ice–cold Alpha, you’ve been following him around like some domesticated pet. I thought you swore off places like this.”
Mira smiled and knocked back her drink, her gaze slightly unfocused. “I’m done giving a shit about him. Tonight I’m getting wild. I’m going to be the real Mira Solvienne again–not some Alpha’s shadow.”
She turned and moved onto the dance floor, letting her body respond to the primal beat. She felt her wolf stirring

beneath her skin, craving freedom.
Scanning the male wolves around the club, she smiled wickedly, running her fingers scrons one man’s chest, drawing appreciative growls,
“Mira, have you completely lost 11?” Summer caught up to her, grading her wrist. Your ve been feeling up half the Alphas in here and practically marking the dance floor as your territory. Aren’t you worried about what Lucien will
do when he finds out?”
“He’s not even here,”
“That’s the thing.” Summer hesitated, leaning in close to whisper, “Who the hell told you he wasn’t? I’ve been trying to tell you–Lucien’s been sitting in the dark corner, watching you for at least half an hour!”
Mira’s fingers froze mid–motion.
She slowly raised her eyes,
Through the hazy lights, she spotted him immediately.
Lucien sat in a shadowy booth, dressed in an impeccable black suit that looked completely out of place amid the club’s chaos.
His long fingers rested on the rim of his glass, his intense gaze fixed on her. The music chose that moment to stop!
She overheard one of Lucien’s packmates laughing: “Damn, Lucien, your so called Luna’s been acting like a bitch in heat all night, rubbing herself against every Alpha with a pulse. If my mate pulled that shit, I’d have dragged her out by her throat by now. How are you just sitting there?”
Lucien’s expression remained unchanged as he took a sip of his tea. “She knows her place. She won’t cross any lines.”
Those words struck her like silver bullets, piercing the most vulnerable part of her heart.
Her place?
Was he so confident in her devotion that he knew she wouldn’t stray?
Or did he simply… not give a damn?
Perhaps both.
“Christ, your control is inhuman. I wonder if anything in this world can actually make you feel something
The packmate’s voice suddenly rose. “Whoa, Lucien, where are you going?”
Mira looked up instinctively to see Lucien standing abruptly, his gaze locked on the other side of the dance floor, his usually impassive eyes flashing with unmistakable possessiveness.
She followed his line of sight-

Of course.
Saela Ashmorne stood at the edge of the dance floor in a white dress, exchanging contact information with a male
wolf.
Lucien stormed over, grabbing Saela’s wrist, his voice terrifyingly cold: “Who gave you permission to enter wolf territory like this? And who said you could give your scent to strange males?”
Saela froze momentarily, then her eyes welled with tears. “Why shouldn’t I be here? Why shouldn’t I talk to other wolves? Brother, you abandoned me, so what does it matter to you what I do?”
Lucien’s knuckles turned white, his voice dropping dangerously. “Who said I abandoned you?”
“You did!” Saela’s voice broke with emotion.
“You avoid me constantly and refuse to acknowledge my presence! Brother, you used to be everything to me. Why did it all change overnight?”
At her words, Lucien’s throat worked visibly, his voice strained with suppressed desire.
“That’s because…”
Mira stood nearby, her heart twisting painfully.
She knew Lucien couldn’t finish that sentence.
What was he supposed to say?
That he, the Alpha of Shadowpine, burned for Saela with forbidden desire?
That simply seeing her made him want to throw her down and claim her right there?
That he loved her so deeply he’d rejected his own mate of two years, instead making a Shadow Doll with her exact likeness to fuck while whispering her name in the darkness?
Mira smiled bitterly, turning to leave, when she heard Saela cry out: “Brother, can’t we go back to how things were? I want my old brother back–the one who only existed for me!”
Lucien’s voice was low and rough.
“I’m mated now, Saela. I can’t give you what you want anymore.”
“So if your mate disappeared, we could be like before again?”
Saela suddenly looked up, her eyes wild with something dangerous.
Mira had just grabbed her purse to leave when she saw Saela snatch a bottle from a nearby table and stride toward
her.

The bottle smashed against her head. The sound of shattering glass exploded in her ears as warm liquid ran down her temple.
“Mira!” Summer’s scream pierced the air.
She staggered backward, only to see Saela raising a second bottle-
“Just die already, you fucking bitch!”
The second blow was even harder.
This time, Mira lost consciousness completely, collapsing in a pool of blood, the screams around her fading into
chaos.
